Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Inspector to join our team. The Construction Inspector will be responsible for ensuring that all construction activities comply with building codes, regulations, and project specifications, with a particular focus on testing concrete and soil for rail, bridge, steel rebar, and other infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety standards, particularly in working with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to assess progress and quality of work.
  • Verify compliance with building codes, zoning laws, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Perform testing of concrete, soil, rail, bridge components, steel rebar, and other materials according to industry standards and project specifications.
  • Document inspection findings, including test results, deficiencies, and violations, through written reports, photographs, and sketches.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address issues and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee quality control measures to ensure materials and workmanship meet required standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections to identify and mitigate hazards on construction sites.
  • Coordinate and conduct final inspections to ensure completion and compliance before occupancy permits are issued.
  • Stay updated on changes to building codes, regulations, and industry best practices, particularly those relevant to transportation infrastructure projects and the MBTA.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience as a construction inspector or similar role, with specific experience in testing concrete, soil, and materials for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
  • Certification from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) as a Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I.
  • Certification from the Northeast Transportation Training and Certification Program (NETTCP) or equivalent certification.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools and technology.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various construction sites.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse teams.
